a new custom brick front fence in Brighton East – Grant Street.
summary of services
Our services for this brick front fence in Grant Street, Brighton East included managing all aspects of the design, permit and construction stages.
design stages
– concept stage –
The concept design for this brick fence borrowed details from the house façade, including the brick selection, metalwork colours and pier capper colours.
Key design considerations for this project included:
- Design to be sympathetic to the existing home
- Design to accommodate a sloped block
- Design to accommodate a stepped pedestrian entrance
- Design to accommodate Melbourne Water flood zone requirements
Our ‘order of cost’ included an estimate of costs, the project scope, general specification, health and safety requirements, assumptions and further investigative work required during the ‘develop’ stage.
– develop stage –
We provided recommendations for cost-effective consultants including a draftsman, structural engineer, geotechnical engineer and building surveyor.
We managed the design team and performed site inspections to confirm the location and depth of in-ground services including power, water, gas, Telstra, NBN, sewer and stormwater.
permit stages
As the maximum height of this brick fence was 2.0m and the property was not encumbered by any covenants or overlays, only report and consent was required to be obtained from council. Consent from Melbourne Water was also required prior to obtaining a building permit due to the property being in a flood prone area.

The project scope for this brick fencing project included:
- Demolition of existing fences
- Concrete footings
- Brickwork
- Painting of pier cappers
- Metalwork including panels, a pedestrian gate and a sliding driveway gate
- Automation of the sliding driveway gate
